LOWER HARMONY - Lower Harmony resident Lloyd Gibbs has announced his intention to seek the Colchester County seat in District 5 in the October municipal election. The following is an introduction to Lloyd Gibbs.

Who: Lloyd Gibbs

Age: 64

Running for: District 5 (Salmon River, Murray Siding, Princeton Heights, Harmony, and Camden).

Resident of Colchester County: Lifelong Colchester County resident

Occupation: Retired petroleum exploration geologist

Family: Married to Anna; one daughter, Andrea

Hobbies: Reading, fishing and gardening

Council Experience: None, but was on the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board for two terms, served one term on the Northern Regional Health Board, one term on the Residential Tenancies Board; created and organized a small-option home program in the county.

Major issues he sees affecting the county: Maximizing shipbuilding benefits for Colchester County's business parks, taxpayers' consultation on district issues, flooding damage, county roads.

Why he believes he would make a good candidate? Gibbs said he "will be a strong voice for district residents at the county council table (and) sees the need to improve direct communication between councillors and district citizens." He's also interested in examining the possibility of televised council meetings, looking at a responsible residential site distance for the proposed wind-turbine project in Harmony, working to improve the relationship between Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and county council regarding infrastructure issues.
