HILDEN - Hilden resident Carol Taggart has announced her intention to run for Colchester County council in October's municipal elections. Here is an election profile on Taggart.
Name: Carol Taggart
Age: 58
Resident of: Hilden since 1986
Running for: County councillor for District 3
Family: Husband Ken, three daughters, six grandchildren
Occupation: Realtor and member of Alderberry Village Craft Coop
Hobbies: Spending time with her grandchildren, volunteering, crafting
Experience: Served on the Chamber of Commerce, Nova Scotia Association of Tourism, Central Nova Tourism Association (president for three terms), Hotel Association, presently serving on the education committee with the Nova Scotia Association of Realtors and Hilden Fire Brigade Auxiliary.
Major issues: "Fiscal responsibility is critical ... citizen concerns with planned sidewalks and (a) bicycle lane in Brookfield need to be heard ... the early planning of an exit from Hwy 102 into Hilden and its potential impact are being discussed, and the costs to residents of a possible new library for Truro and county is worth a hard look."
Why she believes she's a good candidate: "I don't make a habit (of) looking for excuses; I seek resolutions. Future planning is an area I have a lot of experience with, being held accountable to budgets, and being open and mindful to possible concerns that may affect planning are of high importance to me as well."
