TRURO – Electronic voting continues to be busy in the Town of Truro.
Latest statistics provided to the Truro Daily News by Jud Pearson, returning officer for the town, indicate as of suppertime on Monday, there were 1,779 voters who logged online to cast their vote for Truro candidates in the municipal election. That equals about 20 per cent of eligible voters.
The breakdown of votes at that time was:
Ward 1: 19.6 per cent
Ward 2: 21.2 per cent
Ward 3: 19.9 per cent
Pearson had previously confirmed the 2008 election in Truro produced a voter turnout of about 30 per cent.
In Stewiacke, which is providing both paper ballots as well as electronic voting, there has been an estimated 17 per cent of eligible voters choosing their favourite candidates, with the majority of votes being cast online.
Advance polls will be set up today in both communities as well as for people in Colchester County, which is using the paper ballot system only.
