As of 4:30 Friday afternoon, a total of 1,019 individuals had cast their ballots in the Hubtown's first attempt at using electronic voting, either by telephone or the Internet.
"I'm ecstatic. Within 29 1/2 hours we've got 11.4 per cent of the voters have voted already," said returning officer Jud Pearson.
"Within a day, or a little more than a day, using something that is completely new to people in this town, as far as voting, here we are at this figure. People have really seemed to embrace this way of voting. I mean I'm thrilled, he said. "To me it's just taken off."
Votes by ward:
Ward 1 - 355 (11.6 per cent) votes cast;
Ward 2 - 383 (12.0 per cent) votes cast;
Ward 3 - 281 (10.5 per cent) votes cast.
Total - 1,019 votes (11.4 per cent).
