TRURO - Burt MacLean is one of the five Ward 1 candidates vying for one of the two seats on Truro Town Council.

Truro resident since: Born in Truro and grew up in the town.
Running for: One of two seats in Ward 1
Family: Wife Vicki, Daughters Heather and Anna; son Calem
Occupation: Retired from teaching and from military service
Hobbies: Motorcycling, travel, walking
Background: Taught elementary and junior high school for 30 years. In addition, fulfilled many leadership roles with both human and financial responsibilities within the military. (full-time and part-time service) Also co-founder and co-owner of TBD specializing in commercial and residential properties. (Sold in 1997).
Major issues: Transparent decision making; fiscal responsibility; leadership and vision into the future; managed and comprehensive changes in development; municipal policy must reflect the requirements of a diverse and inclusive community; family friendly focus such as safety, bicycle trails, traffic patterns; environmentally sensitive operations; needs and services for seniors; alternate energy sources such as natural gas to lower home heating costs as it has in other communities.
What he believes he would make a good candidate: The experiences and employment opportunities that I have had over the past years will be a positive asset in working with the council. I am a retiree and have the time, the energy and commitment to work on behalf of the community. I look forward to the responsibilities and duties required of a member of the town council.
