TRURO - Truro town councillor Greg MacArthur is re-offering as a councillor for Ward 3 in this month's municipal election. The following is his bio.
Who: Gregory MacArthur
Age: 51
Running for: Ward 3
Resident of Truro: Living in Truro since 1965
Occupation: Canadian Forces Sr. NCO (Navy)
Family: Married to Carolyn, son James and daughter Elizabeth
Hobbies: Walking/hiking, hockey, watching my children in their sporting events
Council experience: More than eight years on Truro town council, two years as deputy mayor, chairman of Truro Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee for six years, member of Douglas Street School Project, co-chairman of the Central Nova Scotia Civic Center Project, Truro Farmers' Market building committee, Federal Municipal Union (FCM) chairman, to name a few.
Major issues he sees affecting Ward 3: The town has to "continue making our streets and sidewalks a priority" and "continue to have the citizens and their council reps working with our police and fire departments to make Ward 3 a safer place to live and enjoy." Also keeping the "Truro pride going so that people are proud of their neighbourhoods ... (and) continue to hold CNR accountable for making sure their lands are well maintained." In addition, MacArthur wants to see co-operation with John Ross & Sons "to find a better solution to some of the citizens concerns to achieve a better outcome for both parties" as well as work on a new housing project on the former Alice Street School site and dealing with water/flood concerns.
Why he believes he should continue as a councillor: MacArthur feels that he has "proven to be a very strong voice on council these past eight plus years" and believes "citizens put their trust in (him) to make sure their concerns are looked after." Also, he "has been involved with almost every new major project in Truro over the last eight years ... (and) has worked on Truro's behalf at the international, national and provincial levels and feels by promoting Ward 3 and Truro to the outside world brings countless benefits to our community."
