BROOKFIELD - Brookfield resident Hugh Matheson has announced his intention to run for Colchester County council in October's municipal elections. The following is an introductory profile.

Running for: District 3 (Brookfield) councillor
Occupation: Retired after 35 years of managing the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex
Family: Married (Judy) and five adult children
Hobbies: Golf and swimming
Major issue facing the county: "I think we have to get a hold of our tax rate to make sure it doesn't continue to go up the way it has in the last four years."
Council experience: 11 years on council (prior to this term) of which eight were served as deputy mayor
Why would he make a good candidate? "I have previous (council) experience and I have a bit of knowledge about life in general."
