TRURO - A Truro town councillor has confirmed he is not running for mayor this fall.
Rumours have been circulating that Ward 1 Coun. Raymond Tynes would vacate his council seat in favour of running for the town's top position.
Tynes, however, revealed to the Truro Daily News on Monday that he won't be submitting his name for mayor in the October municipal election.
"I will re-offer as a councillor," said Tynes, admitting that he did consider the possibility of running for mayor but ultimately decided against it.
"I can still serve the town well" as a councillor.
Tynes has been a member of council since 2004.
Candidates have until Sept. 11 to officially indicate their intention to run for council. This year's election will be through electronic voting and ballots will be cast between Oct. 11 at noon and Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. when voting is closed and ballots are counted to reveal election results.
