SALMON RIVER - Salmon River resident of 32 years David Totten has announced that he intends to run as a candidate in Colchester County in the upcoming municipal elections. The following is an introductory bio.
Who: David Totten
Age: 56
Family: Married for 34 years. Raised five children in Salmon River. Also has two grandsons being raised in Salmon River.
Running for: District 5
Occupation: Retired after 35 years with the Province of Nova Scotia in Assessment Division.
Hobbies: golf, refereeing and hockey.
Council experience: None
Why he would make a good candidate: In my career I have been involved in providing the tax base in general for the municipalities of Nova Scotia. I feel I am aware of the procedures of how Government works with these budgets. Now that I have time to completely focus I would like to continue the excellent job my predecessor has done by providing knowledge and understanding to the constituents of District 5. Seeing how well projects are being accomplished by the municipality on the whole, I would like to contribute and continue the vision.
Major issues: Some issues I have heard of are road conditions, water passage issues and placement of wind turbines. I would like to help solve these and create a better community and county.
