GANDER, N.L. – Newfoundland and Labrador Liberals have voted in favour of a policy that calls for lowering the provincial voting age to 16.
The vote in favour of the policy came following debate at the party’s annual convention over the weekend in Gander.
However, Liberal Leader Dwight Ball says that doesn’t mean the position will become part of the party’s official stance in the next provincial election.
Ball says the issue is something that will involve a larger public discussion.
He says he understands the arguments on both sides of the issue.
About 300 members of the Opposition party gathered in Gander for the convention in an event that was largely devoted to preparing party members for the next provincial election.
