Islander wins $1.2 million in World Series of Poker tournament

CHARLOTTETOWN - P.E.I. has its newest millionaire after an Island man took home $1.2 million in one of the World Series of Poker’s biggest tournaments Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Islander Benny Chen celebrates his win in a World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas.

Benny Chen beat out a field of more than 6,300 players in the Millionaire Maker no limit hold’em at the annual poker championship.

Chen spent $3,000 to buy into the tournament and along with the money, he won a gold bracelet that comes with every World Series of Poker tournament victory.

Before Tuesday’s win, Chen’s previous cash out at a World Series of Poker event was $11,000.
