ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Brayden Schenn's goal stood up as the winner in the Adirondack Phantoms' 4-3 victory over the St. John's IceCaps on Saturday in American Hockey League action.
Adirondack (2-2-0) had goals from Brandon Manning, Shane Harper and Zac Rinaldo, while Scott Munroe made 31 saves.
John Albert and Ivan Telegin scored goals for St. John's (2-2-0).
Despite being outshot 14-10, the IceCaps came out ahead after the first period. Albert opened the scoring at 12:54 when his wrist shot hit the post and bounced off Munroe's pads and in.
The Phantoms had a chance to tie the game in the second when Garrett Roe was awarded a penalty shot at 7:43. Roe was stoned by IceCaps goalie Ed Pasquale.
St. John's made it 2-0 at 8:06, when Telegin bounced a puck off Munroe from behind the net.
Adirondack got on the board around the nine minute mark when they capitalized on a power play. Manning wound up a rocket from the point that found its way past Pasquale.
The Phantoms tied the game less than half a minute later when the IceCaps couldn't clear their zone and Harper hammered it home at 9:49.
The third period turned in the Phantoms' favour when Rinaldo opted to shoot on a 2-one-1, as the Phantoms pulled ahead at 12:06.
Schenn scored the eventual winner at 12:57 before Redmond scored on the power play three minutes later.
Pasquale finished with 28 saves for the IceCaps.
Both teams went 1-for-4 on the power play.
