Bridgetown’s annual festival has lots going on from September 13 to 16

The Cardboard Boat Regatta takes place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 during Bidgetown Ciderfest. The event, that starts and finishes at Jubilee Park, usually includes a few spills and the odd sinking.

Ciderfest, running September 13 through 16, is Bridgetown’s annual fall celebration. Now in its 29th year, the usual fun is back with a few new frills.

One of this year’s big highlights is the Lieutenant Governor’s visit on Saturday to present the town with its Community Spirit Award at Jubilee Park at 11 a.m. This presentation, by Brigadier General the Honourable J.J. Grant, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, honours the community for its strength and its vitality.

Andy Kerr says this year’s festival is in line with past celebrations, with a few new events including pontoon rides up the Annapolis River and a tour of the Inglis family’s apple orchard.

Returning Favourites

Returning favorites this year feature the Queen Street celebrations, the youth ambassador luncheon, the grand street parade, the show and shine, the rubber duck race, the cardboard boat regatta and soapbox derby, and the Vernon Dakin car rally.

Kerr added this year they vamped up the food vendors to offer something tasty for everyone with Peelers Potatoes, Smokey's Rib Shack, Cotton Candy 4 You, Mini Donuts, Ralph's Sausages, Jesters Pizza, The Orange Ukulele, and the BRHS Grads Barbecue.

The festival kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, with the youth ambassador’s luncheon, a first chance to meet this year’s youth ambassador candidates. The apple pie contest takes the cake at the legion, starting at noon and running until 4 p.m.

This year’s Ciderfest harvest dinner follows at 4:30 p.m., and the day closes with a Country Courtyard Concert featuring Country Sunshine at Mountain Lea Lodge at 7 p.m.
