TRURO - A federal announcement is planned for Truro on Sunday, but don't expect it to be the multi-million dollar civic centre funding.
The Town of Truro sent out invitations to the media outlets on Monday saying a pair of federal Conservative members of Parliament (Central Nova's Peter MacKay and Cumberland Colchester Musquodoboit Valley's Scott Armstrong) will make an announcement in council chambers at 1 p.m. in the town's civic building.
While some media outlets are speculating the announcement could be the long-awaited civic centre funding, the Truro Daily News has learned it is not. The announcement is expected to be the $855,000 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency's RinC program the town will put towards last summer's renovation of the Colchester Legion Stadium and future improvements.
Last summer's renovation cost about $730,000 and included replacing the concrete floor under the ice, moving the ice surface to allow for standing room and more space in the entrance and other improvements.
The town is now looking at renovating washrooms and dressing rooms among other enhancements that are expected to start in the new fiscal year.
