Main-a-Dieu man pleads not guilty to sex offences

SYDNEY — A Main-a-Dieu man entered not guilty pleas Monday to three sex offences.

Robert Gerard Parsons, 52, is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference with a person under the age of 14 and invitation to sexual touching.

The offences involve a female complainant and allegedly occurred between September 2012 and January of this year.

During a provincial court appearance Monday, Parsons elected to be tried by a Supreme Court judge and jury and waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Parsons is now scheduled to return to court Feb. 24 for a focus hearing that will examine any concerns with how the evidence will be presented and whether there are matters to be addressed in advance of the trial.

Parsons continues his release on conditions that include having no contact with the complainant, he is not to be in the company of anyone under age 16 unless accompanied by an adult, and he is not allowed to possess any weapons.
