TRURO - Better air out those long johns 'cause you are going to need them next year too....
That might be an apt message to anyone planning to attend next year's winter carnival in Truro, which has officially become known as the Winter Long John Festival.
"We had probably the best festival in four years," said Ashley Simms, the town's community recreation co-ordinator.
And given the attention the new Long John moniker has added to the festival, Simms said, the name will remain.
"I'd say we probably had a thousand people out throughout the whole week," she said, which is about double last year's attendance.
From good weather to added activities, Simms described the affair as "a really fun, community-minded event" that brought similar responses from people who attended.
"We brought in more culture and arts this year," she said. "I was very happy with the event. It was very successful. It was a lot of fun."
Another pleasant surprise was with the number of residents who responded to a request to keep their Christmas lights up to provide that added touch to the festival.
"And we had a really good response to that as well," Simms said.
"It just added a little bit more spirit to the event."
