TRURO – The Cantabile Society of Truro is hosting its first ‘Cantab-elation: Joyfully Making Music Together’ event this weekend.

The event, which is set for 3 p.m. on March 29 at the First United Church, will feature the Cantabile Singers and Cantabile Boys’ Choir in concert under the direction of artistic director Chris Bowman. Lisa Annand, with the Cantabile Singers, and Ross Thompson of the Canatabile Boys’ Choir will be accompanists.

Cantab-elation 2014 will celebrate the gift of making music together in partnership with other choirs, this year welcoming the Annapolis Valley Honour Choir and director Heather Fraser.

The honour choir consists of two ensembles – junior and senior – with about 60 choristers in Grades six to 12.

Cantab-elation 2014 will feature choral music in a variety of styles, ranging from Renaissance and Baroque standards by Palestrina and Bach, to contemporary classical repertoire by Eric Whitacre, as well as pop, gospel and practically everything in between.

The Cantabile Singers, Cantabile Boys' Choir, Annapolis Valley Honour Choir (junior) and Annapolis Valley Honour Choir (senior) will all sing as individual choirs, and there will be combined numbers.

Tickets are $17, with a $5 student rate; children 12 and younger will get in for free. Those interested in purchasing tickets can do so by visiting MacQuarries Pharmasave on the Esplanade or from choir members; remaining tickets will be available at the door.
