With the pre-planned winter closure of Saint John Exhibition Park Raceway, tomorrow's $1,350 top class programs two New Brunswick starters in Rick Armstrong's Artistry and Melodys Cookie Boy for Mel Land.
The $4,500 claimer Roi De Coeur BG out of the Ken St. John string is the early morning favourite in the talented field along with prospects Dreams Matter for trainer/driver Danny Romo and Kenny Greene's
Mischievous Lad. Owner Stephen Morton will be sending out his newest acquisition, the six-year-old daughter of Presidential Ball,
Canaco Quelle, fresh off a winning qualifying trip with Kirk Parris between the wheels.
As is the normal practice in Atlantic Canada, Charlottetown Driving Park is slated to take a winter break effective Feb. 1 with an anticipated return date of April 24 while the management and horsemen and women of Truro Raceway have decided upon a four week mid-winter pause from live racing from Feb. 7 to March 7.
Post time for Sunday's 12-dash card is set for 1 p.m. with qualifiers on deck for noon.
HARNESS RACING SYMPOSIUM
The Nova Scotia Harness Racing Industry Council announced the annual symposium is scheduled for April 9, 10 and 11.
Organizers confirm the agenda, although not yet finalized, will include discussion boards and information sessions covering such topics as the Canada One Initiative, Atlantic Breeders Crown as well as possible revenue generators for the industry. The conference is planned for Truro's Holiday Inn.
TRACK PHOTOGRAPHER
Track photographer Lynn Curwin will be enjoying a brief hiatus from Atlantic Canada while visiting Europe later this month.
Curwin, who is well known for her skill in producing outstanding animal portraits, has also been a driving force in the local area with regards to the re-homing of retired and non-racing standardbreds to new owners and disciplines as well as being an active member of the Atlantic Grand Circuit Week planning committee.
Curwin has been employed with Truro Raceway for about four years and is expected to return to Nova Scotia in early June.
Kyle Burton, an 18-year-old Grade 12 student at CEC, will be taking over the photography duties at the raceway until Curwin's return. Burton, the son of horse owners Roy and Shelly of Debert, is looking forward to pursuing an education in civil engineering at Nova Scotia Community College in Dartmouth in the fall.
NEW ADDITION
Nova Scotia based horseman Sonny Siteman, who has been downsizing his stable as of late, recently introduced a new addition to his camp with the purchase of a son of Artiscape, Artgentina, presently campaigning out of London and Woodbine for trainer Neil MacInnis.
MEADOWLANDS SALE RESULTS
More than 300 horses were sold last Monday at the Meadowlands January Select Mixed Sale in New Jersey, nine of which had been conditioned out of the Dale Pinkney camp for Ian Smith of Charlottetown.
