TRURO - The Colchester Historical Society is counting on the generosity of the community for another successful financial appeal.
The annual appeal supports the work and services of the Colchester Historical Museum and Archives in Truro.
And while the majority of the support comes from the society's members and local businesses, donations from individuals in the community are also encouraged.
"The appeal is a critical element in supporting and sustaining the work" of the museum, said appeal committee board member Dale Ells. He said it costs about $130,000 to operate the museum for a year. In 2008, about $17,000 was raised from the appeal.
In addition, a provincial grant of about $45,000 from the Museum Assistance Program helps with operating funds.
The museum sees more than 8,000 visitors annually, has about 10,000 objects preserved in collections, more than 2,000 people conduct research in the archives yearly and more than 300 additional inquires to the archives are assisted annually.
To help with the annual appeal, call the museum at 895-6284.
