TRURO – A live painting battle is returning to Truro later this month.
The Loft Cabaret will host Art Battle 67 on Sept. 29. This is the second time the Hubtown has hosted an event – the first being last spring.
A dozen of the finest local painters will have 20 minutes to create their best work, with the audience voting for their favourite. The painting with the most votes will be declared the champion and move on to compete later in the season for a chance to earn a spot at the 2014 Art Battle National Championship.
All artwork created at the battle is auctioned off following the voting.
Painters will only have acrylic paints, canvas, brushes, palette knives and non-mechanical implements at their disposal. Artists work freestyle, with no reference materials and the theme is open.
Erin Jackson won the Truro Art Battle in the spring, and made it to the final round at the finals in Halifax.
CEC art teacher Grace Simms also competed in the Halifax final, after winning another competition in Halifax earlier in the year.
Doors to Art Battle 67 open at 6:15 p.m. and the painting starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 in advance (limited numbers available), and $15.
