‘I wanted to bring it back because I had so much fun doing it’

TRURO – Andrew Morrisey is bringing his one-man, cabaret-style show back to town.

Truro native Andrew Morrisey, 23, is hosting a one-man show ‘No Place Like Home’ on Aug. 7 at the Best Western Plus Glengarry, with Truro’s Rachel O’Brien accompanying him.

The 23-year-old Truro native is hosting the show, No Place Like Home, for the third year.

“The reception from the previous two years was really good,” Morrisey said. “It was completely sold out last year. I wanted to bring it back because I had so much fun doing it.”

Morrisey, who has been accepted into one of the world’s best acting schools – the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, said he will have a whole new repertoire of musical theatre and jazz songs, as well as new stories.

“This show will be brand new with a lot of surprises,” he said. “I’ll have stories from my childhood and my experiences.”

Graduating from Sheridan College’s music theatre performance program two years ago, Morrisey is still honing his skills.

“I met a teacher at a conference last year and I have been taking lessons with her on Skype,” he said, noting the teacher is Tony Award winner Faith Prince. “She’s been helping me put some songs together for the show and I’m hoping to take it to New York next year.”

Prince, said Morrisey, is helping him find space and time in New York for the one-man show, which Morrisey said he would use as a calling card.

“I want to invite agents and casting agents, as well as others in the industry,” he said.

The one-man show, which begins at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Best Western Plus Glengarry, has limited seating.

“It’s a really great show if you’re looking for a good laugh,” he said.

Truro’s Rachel O’Brien will accompany Morrisey on the piano.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is by a donation at the door. A cash bar will be available.
