TRURO – The Royal Canadian Legion here will be rocking later this month with the Scott Woods Show – Swingin’ Fiddles.
Multiple winner of the Canadian Open and Grand Masters Fiddle contests, Woods and his band will bring alive the music of the 1930s, 40s and 50s in an old time show on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at Branch 26.
Woods, who hails from Fergus, Ont., is a sixth generation fiddler. He was the musical director and played the part of Don Messer in Memories of Don Messer’s Jubilee that toured extensively throughout Canada for eight years.
He now travels across the country continuing his own family tradition of old time music started by his father and The Merv Woods Orchestra back in 1950.
Swingin’ Fiddles features three fiddlers playing together in harmony. Western swing, big band, pop standards, country, gospel and plenty of old time fiddling pack the program.
Along with Wood, the cast features Don Wood, Bruce Timmins, Wes Dymond, Emily Yarascavitch and Courtney Drew.
The show will also feature step dancing, home spun family humour and Woods’s famous trick fiddling that earned him the Canadian Novelty Fiddle Championship title and The Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for ages six to 12, and children under five are free. Tickets are available at MacQuarries Pharmasave on the Esplanade, or by calling 1-855-726-8896.
