TRURO - Truro will ring in 2010 with a fireworks display at one of the community's main attractions.

The New Year's celebration at Victoria Park will include more fireworks this year.

"The park is ideal for us. It's a good spot," said Truro firefighter engineer Robert Power, who along with about five colleagues will be setting off the fireworks in the ball field.

"It should be a good display" with some nice colours.

Mother Nature can impact a fireworks display but Power said "as long as the wind is not too bad and it's not raining" the event will go on.

Last year was the first year the fireworks were held at Victoria Park while in past years they were done in the civic block by the police station. A year ago, heavy snow was falling when the countdown started but the fireworks lit up the sky to the delight of the crowd.

The New Year's show is what is known as low-level fireworks compared to the Canada Day show, which takes place in the stadium ball fields, where the fireworks travel higher in the air. At the park there are residential neighbourhoods nearby which require low-level fireworks.
