TRURO - A local woman has been chosen as one of about 20 people throughout Canada to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Denmark.
Truro's Corinna Taylor, 23, leaves for Copenhagen Dec. 6. She'll be there for more than a week, participating in the conference in which issues surrounding climate change will be discussed. The goal is to establish a global agreement with all countries of the world.
"I filled out the application about a month ago thinking I wouldn't have a chance," said Taylor, who is the Atlantic Canadian representative through the International Federation of Liberal Youth.
"I'm excited but in disbelief ... we can save the Earth one person at a time but it requires a lifestyle change and people don't like that," said Taylor, who has a bachelor of science in environmental science and is working on her master's of science at NSAC and Dalhousie University. She also volunteers with the Ecology Action Center, Clean Nova Scotia, is a member of the Living Earth Council and is mom to her 10-month-old daughter.
"At NSAC we believe one person can make a difference in the world. Corinna ... will be a great voice for our community, our country and the world," said Jim Goit, NSAC executive director of Development and External Relations, through a press release.
As a delegate Taylor must host a town hall event. The public gathering will be held Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the NSAC's Alumni Theatre.
"We'll discuss (environmental) concerns and I'll take those to the conference," she said.
In addition, Taylor is fundraising $5,000 for the trip. Local businesses, organizations and individuals willing to make a donation can contact her at
