It just makes me feel warm

TRURO - Darlene Cail purchased the warmest winter clothing of her life this week and none of it will ever even grace her back.
"We should make a lot of kids happy," the Palliser Restaurant manager said, of the winter clothing laid out around her.
"That's a lot of stuff."
Her reference is to the 30 coats and snowsuits, the 21 pairs of boots and the 39 hats and sets of mittens Cail and a couple of her colleagues purchased this week for the Coats for Kids program for needy children, which is managed locally by Maggie's Place.
Since May when the Palliser opened for the season, approximately 30 staff members have been donating $2 per week from their pay cheques towards the cause.
They raised $1,300 (a similar amount to past years) but instead of donating the cold, hard cash as they have done before, staff decided to do something different.
"In past years we've just donated it (the money) to Maggies Place but we decided to go out and buy the items," she said.
And what a difference it made for the contributers to actually see how their money was spent, Cail said.
"When they came in this morning we had it all laid out, everybody was just thrilled to see how much we got for the money. One of the waitresses said 'it just makes me feel warm,'" she said.
"I feel great about it... everybody likes to get something new," she said. "But, of course, without the staff we wouldn't be able to do it. And besides that, we had a great time yesterday shopping for it."
Given the success of their efforts, Cail said, Palliser staff are issuing a challenge to see if others in the community would like to share in the warm and fuzzy feelings they have derived from their good deed.
"We'd like to issue a challenge to other small businesses," she said, "to try to do the same thing."

I wonder if Mr Bruce is matching the donation...I doubt it. Congrats to the minimum wage earning staff.

What a great news story! This is a fine example of how even if each individual contributes a small amount on a regular basis it can add up and result in great things.

    Way to go folks !!!!!!

Fantastic Idea and congrats to the staff at the Palliser Restaurant. Hopefully other small (and large) businesses follow this fine example. It's always a great positive feeling to help others in need.
