TORONTO - The Ontario parents of a baby girl once at the centre of a heart donation drama have announced their separation.
Believing their daughter Kaylee was going to die of a rare health condition, Jason Wallace and Crystal Vitelli had offered her heart for transplant in another sick baby.
The couple made national headlines in April with the controversial offering, raising the ire of staff and other parents whose children needed hearts at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.
Baby Kaylee eventually rallied and moved to the family home in Bradford, north of Toronto, but she continues to need ongoing care.
Through a spokesman, Wallace said Wednesday that he and Vitelli "separated due to discrepancies within the family."
Wallace was to hold a press conference Thursday to explain the decision and give an update on his four-month-old daughter's condition.
