TRURO - The Colchester SPCA is urgently in need of kitten food and calorie-reduced adult cat food.
"We're out of kitten food," said executive director Yyvonne Higgins, who added the low calorie, weight-reduced adult cat food is also down to a one-day supply.
"We need donations," Higgins pleaded late Thursday afternoon. The SPCA is located at 408 Industrial Ave., or call 893-7968.

The idea of soliciting corporate donations is a great one, however, they are dealing with a crisis right now. I went down today and donated food. On a go-forward basis perhaps they should attempt to form a relationship with some corporate partners. That said, they need help NOW which is what this article is all about.

If they weren't so strict on who can adopt a cat/kitten, they wouldn't have so many there. I tried to adopt one a few years ago but b/c my indoor cat wasn't fixed, they wouldn't let me adopt one. I was going to get one of the same sex so there wouldn't be any chance of having more kittens around. They don't look at the person that is going to adopt them and what they can provide for one of the animals that are waiting for adoption.

They have to be strict on the adoption rules or else the odds of the cat returning or going to a poor home is too high.
It's because of us that there is this overwhelming cat problem. People don't see the need to spay/neuter their pets, especially if it is a male cat. People and irresponsible and ignorant.
And unfortunately, even the indoor cat should be fixed. They can get out.
If I had the money and the means, I'd adpot every last one of them and go live in the country somewhere. I'll settle for donating food when I can and hopefully the big chain stores step up.
PS- Did everyone know you can buy clumping cat litter from the SPCA? It's a fabulous deal and the SPCA gets the profits!! Check it out!!
