TRURO - Trevor Redmond believes that
every step taken and each bike pedalled will bring this country closer to finding a cure for cancer.
The 38-year-old former Pictou County resident now lives in Calgary and is mid-way through a country-wide walking/biking tour, raising awareness and funds toward the prevention, research and awareness of cancer.
"I want to make an impact ... I am out to move Canada," said Redmond during his stop in Truro on the weekend. Redmond said his initiative is personal as well because many of his family members have battled cancer, including his grandfather, uncle and aunt.
"If we keep taking steps toward a cure we will get there."
Redmond left Truro Saturday morning, hoping to bicycle as far as Canso by the end of the day. Up to that point, he had biked about 7,199 kms, in addition to walking 11,421 km and taking more than 15 million steps.
"My goal would be to raise $1 for every step I've taken," Redmond said. As of Saturday morning, he had raised $30,000.
Redmond expects his journey will take until the end of July or early August to complete. He finishes his effort by returning home to Calgary.
