TRURO - A special show featuring the art traditions of African Nova Scotians is being unveiled tonight in Truro.
The show, In This Place: Black Art in Nova Scotia, opens tonight at the McCarty Hall Gallery at the Nova Scotia Community College library at 7 p.m., and runs throughout the month of February.
The show is a remount of an 1998 exhibition revealing a 150-year-old art-making tradition among African Nova Scotians which established art as an important form of cultural expression in the province.
Fifteen contemporary artists and four heritage artists are showcasing their works in a variety of genres (realism, abstract and folk) and mediums (painting, sculpture, woodcarving and quilts) from 1890 to the present.
