TATAMAGOUCHE - The North Shore Health Services Foundation recently presented the first installment of community-raised funding to support renovations at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital.
Rollie Langille, chairman of the renovation fundraising campaign for the rural hospital, said he had been looking forward to seeing improvements begin at the hospital for a long time.
"We've been waiting and the whole community has been waiting to get the construction moving and we are very glad to be giving this funding from the community," said Langille.
When the project was announced in the spring of 2005 the estimated construction cost was $2 million and the community fundraised 25 per cent of that amount in less than one year.
Although construction costs have escalated since the project was launched, the community contribution has not increased. It will be provided in five $100,000 installments as the renovations move forward during the next few months.
Langille has visited the site a few times since the construction company has moved on site and said they are making big advances. He estimates renovations will be complete by April or May 2009.
