TRURO - A power outage at Cobequid Educational Centre that occurred just before noon has not cancelled afternoon classes.

The power outage, which occurred shortly before noon on Tuesday and lasted about a half an hour, prompted administrators to dismiss walking and driving students after receiving word from Nova Scotia Power that electricity would not be restored until 3:30 p.m.

However, shortly after that announcement was made and students had left the building for lunch, power was restored ahead of schedule. School board spokeswoman Debbie Buott-Matheson confirmed students who left the property after being dismissed because of early power issues will not be counted as absent for afternoon classes.
