Truro, NS – The official name of the new civic centre in Truro will be revealed on Tuesday morning.

Ignite the Spirit campaign chair, Jon Stanfield, will make the announcement to media and project-related people at 10:30 a.m. The gathering is not open to the public, but details of the announcement will be made available immediately following the event.

The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre was scheduled to open in December, with membership programs beginning in January. However, delays, including peeling paint, have forced the opening to be delayed. Officials will announce a new opening date at a later time.

It’s the third time the opening has been postponed, with work on the $48-million project taking longer than expected.

When it opens, the civic centre will include a 2,500-seat arena with a NHL-sized ice surface, an eight-lane, 25-metre, swimming pool and smaller therapeutic pool, a climbing wall, fitness centre and community meeting space.

Maybe they should call it the Alberta Center , since they gave the contract to an Alberta firm . Let's see NHL sized icepad , already have that ( Colchester Legion Stadium , same size 200 X 85 ) . Fitness Center and Swimming Pool , already have that ( Community College Gym , which also has a gymnasium , and was far cheaper , which they are closing ) . Oh , wait a second , we can pay $200 + TAX for a walking membership . WOW !

It should be called "The Happy Harry's Health Centre" since it looks like the siding came from Happy Harry's Used Building Supplies, but may be they were just trying to save us tax payers some money. I have difficulty being proud of such an eyesore.

"The gathering is not open to the public, but details of the announcement will be made available immediately following the event." ????????? Why announce this behind closed doors especially since this is a community project? The naming process can't truly be transparent but come on folks !!!

"Jon Stanfield, will make the announcement to media and project-related people at 10:30 a.m. The gathering is not open to the public" Don't mind us....we don't need an invite to your party....we merely paid for it.
