Truro, NS – The official name of the new civic centre in Truro will be revealed on Tuesday morning.
Ignite the Spirit campaign chair, Jon Stanfield, will make the announcement to media and project-related people at 10:30 a.m. The gathering is not open to the public, but details of the announcement will be made available immediately following the event.
The Central Nova Scotia Civic Centre was scheduled to open in December, with membership programs beginning in January. However, delays, including peeling paint, have forced the opening to be delayed. Officials will announce a new opening date at a later time.
It’s the third time the opening has been postponed, with work on the $48-million project taking longer than expected.
When it opens, the civic centre will include a 2,500-seat arena with a NHL-sized ice surface, an eight-lane, 25-metre, swimming pool and smaller therapeutic pool, a climbing wall, fitness centre and community meeting space.
