TRURO - Heading into Saturday's election, voter turnout for Truro is about double the amount of ballots cast four years ago.
As of suppertime on Friday, 3,316 people had electronically voted for Truro town councillors, mayor and school board representatives. That totals 37.3 per cent of the eligible electorate. That compares to 19 per cent of people casting a ballot in 2008.
A breakdown of votes per ward is 38.1 per cent for Ward 1 (1,168 voters); 36.7 per cent for Ward 2 (1,159 voters); and 36.9 per cent for Ward 3 (989 voters).
In Stewiacke, more than 32 per cent of the public has voted. There were 100 paper ballots cast in the two advance polls during the last nine days and 191 electronic votes were tallied as of 5 p.m. on Friday.
Municipal voting continues until the close of polls at 7 p.m. Saturday.
