TATAMAGOUCHE - About 1,000 people gathered at the Tatamagouche Creamery on Sunday afternoon in the searing heat to honour a well-respected former politician.
Senator Margaret Fawcett Norrie, who passed away in 1983, was honoured by having the site's creamery heritage centre renamed after Norrie, who was the first female Nova Scotian senator. An indoor and outdoor stage will also bear her name as well. Norrie was a Colchester County resident who spent a lot of her time in Tatamagouche, supporting many of its programs, sites and economy.
Frank MacKay and The Lincolns also performed at the ceremony on Sunday. Margaret's son, Rod, from Onslow, was an original member of the band.
