TRURO - Efforts are underway to increase the police presence in West Colchester and that can't come soon enough for the area's elected representative.
"I think there might be some drug issues in West Colchester that need to be addressed," said Colchester County Coun. Tom Taggart. "There's a bunch of young people that I think are good kids ... that I think are starting to be led astray down there."
An RCMP officer is stationed in the area but because of the paperwork involved in filing reports and the travel distance from his work zone to the Bible Hill detachment,
not enough time is actually spent in the
community.
However, Staff Sgt. Jay McInnis recently told council that efforts are in the works to help correct the situation, including providing the officer with a laptop computer that he can keep with him and making arrangements for a place where he can access the Internet, so that his travel time will be reduced.
"As of now, he can't get his paperwork done if he's down in Bass River," McInnis said.
