TRURO - A Truro man given up by his electronic ankle bracelet is going to jail for breaking his house arrest conditions.
Balcolm Murray Dale Weatherbee, 49, of 54 Alice St., was arrested by Truro police around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Last April, Weatherbee was convicted of assault and sentenced to six months house arrest.
But with only 55 days remaining in the sentence he was discovered to be outside his residence Thursday morning when the GPS signal in his ankle bracelet gave him up.
Truro Police Service's Staff-Sgt. Randy MacKenzie said the bracelet sends a message to a monitoring centre in Halifax, which
notifies town police if an infraction has occurred.
"They knew right where he was," he said. "It's all GPS."
The province expanded the electronic supervision in December.
Weatherbee's house arrest was collapsed and he is to spend 14 days in jail.
