SYDNEY MINES, N.S. - A Cape Breton community health board can thank a quartet of passersby for the recovery of most of a briefcase of cash that nearly blew away in strong winds last week.
Ken Jardine was heading to the bank Friday, clutching a briefcase containing money belonging to the Northside Community Health Board.
Before he could get into his truck, a huge gust of wind ripped the briefcase from his hand and several $50 and $100 bills blew down the main street of Sydney Mines.
Jardine, who chairs the health board, says two older men jumped out of their cars and started grabbing bills, while two women from North Sydney did the same.
Jardine says they managed to help return about $2,000.
He says all but $455 of the $3,800 that was in the briefcase was eventually recovered.
