LONDONDERRY - Get voting.
That is the message from Londonderry resident Amanda Langille regarding her community's entry in a nationwide Internet contest.
"The countdown is on for the Thirsty Church," she said, of the public voting aspect of the Aviva Community Fund, which wraps up shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Langille entered her community church in the contest in the hopes of winning funding to enable plumbing and running water to be installed, to provide wheelchair access and have the basement finished for use as a community centre.
With thousands of ideas already fallen by the wayside, the Londonderry entry is the only one from Nova Scotia still in the running and Langille is calling on widespread community support to keep the church viable for a cash prize that could go as high as $250,000.
"I wish I knew what to say to inspire people to vote," she said. "What other time will we have an opportunity to bring this much money to Londonderry Station?"
Anyone wishing to participate can vote daily. For information on the contest, simply Google the Thirsty Church.
"If we're in the top 25 at the end of the day Wednesday, then we'll go to the panel of judges."
The church has been hovering in 24th spot and for Langille, that is just a little too close for comfort.
"We're maintaining but we're not gaining and come Wednesday the voting is going to be fierce, so we're really trying to up our numbers," she said. "We've pushed past thousands of ideas all across the country to end up where we are and we are the only Nova Scotia idea (remaining), so it's definitely something to be proud of and get behind."

Hi Stena and ALL who want to vote for the Thirsty Church. The easiest way is to follow this link, it will take you directly to the voting page. You will have to register your email and select a password - then just VOTE. I hope this helps. If the link does not work, the next easiest way is to 'Google' the Thirsty Church and follow the link from there. If none of that works, call me at 897-4213. Thank you for your interest and please tell everyone you know to vote too!!! http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf1612
