Truro art gallery honoured with Edward Porter's new exhibit

  • Place : Visual Voice Fine Art
  • Time : 19:00
  • Contact : Nuri Guerra
  • Details : Artist Edward Porter, former NSCAD professor honoured in the permanent collections of more than 15 museums, such as The National Gallery of Canada, The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Philadelphia Museum, and The National Gallery (Washington, D. C.), opens a new exhibit at Visual Voice Fine Art in Truro, NS. "It's an honour to host the opening show for such a well loved and recognized artist," says gallery owner Nuri Guerra. "Not only has he been an inspiration to thousands of prospective artists, but Ed continues to be a pillar of the Mahone Bay Printmakers Association, and advocate for print documentation standards in our province." The solo show entitled Marking These Times is a series of intaglios incorporating many printmaking techniques, each piece creating an entrancing juxtaposition of forceful dynamic forms and sensitive use of colour. As described by the artist: "The images constitute a reflective view of our times transformed into gestural shapes and strokes that serve as my personal response to the issues which are a major player in our encompassing social world and the environment in which we live." Though entirely abstract, their movement is evocative of the their titles, like All in a Flurry, Spring Forth Once More, and Thunderstruck. The show is comprised of twenty pieces, all in small editions (from three to 20), each a marriage of minimalism and complexity, a battle of contradictory forces that arrive at a harmonious and elegant end to the delight of the viewer. To view the show visit Visual Voice Fine Art gallery in downtown Truro from May 23rd to June 20. Meet the artist at the FREE public opening reception held the evening of Saturday, May 30th from 7 to 9 pm. To learn more about Visual Voice Fine Art’s artist biographies, workshop or event information, visit: The gallery is located in downtown Truro at 128 King Street.
