NEW GLASGOW - Truro will soon have a new judge.
Judge Del Atwood has been practising law in Pictou County for many years and is highly respected among his colleagues. He was chosen to serve in the Provincial and Family Courts by Justice Minister Ross Landry and was sworn in Friday.
Atwood will be sitting in Truro for the early term of his new appointment but it is unclear where he will land in the future.
Atwood said that these are interesting and challenging times in the legal profession. He looks forward to working in Truro and other Colchester communities in the near future.
Ronald Creighton, president of the Nova Scotia Barrister Society, calls Atwood a "one-man law school."
He said that the appointment is the "practising Bar's loss but the judiciary's gain.
"Judge Atwood has a very well rounded practice background," said Creighton.
