RCMP think teen in planter responsible for damage

TATAMAGOUCHE - A "highly intoxicated" 18-year-old male found passed out in a planter on Main Street was nabbed red-handed when police picked him up Monday morning.
"We have a suspect in custody," said Staff Sgt., Al Affleck, of 10 separate property damage incidents reported overnight Sunday. "His hands were covered in red paint," Affleck said, of how the suspect was found when he was roused from his alcohol-induced sleep.
Red graffiti was painted on the outside of the Tatamagouche elementary school (which also had a no parking sign thrown through a window); a car was found with red paint sprayed on it; windows were reported broken at the Needs store and Canada Post office and minor damage was reported at the high school, Patterson Wharf and the North Shore Development office.
As well, a local resident called in a report shortly before 3 a.m. of someone hitting a window with a candidate's election sign at the local laundromat.
"We believe he's responsible for them all," Affleck said, of the individual police had in custody on Monday. "He fits the description of the eyewitnesses."
He said the unnamed suspect was still being questioned Monday afternoon but it was thought he would be released following questioning and is expected to appear in provincial court at a later date.
