Farmers market in Tata re-opening today

TATAMAGOUCHE - The Tatamagouche Farmers' Market will reopen for the season today, bringing locally made and produced goods directly to consumers.
The market will open its doors from 8 a.m. to noon at the Creamery Square on Creamery Road.
This year the market will celebrate its 30-year anniversary.
"The farmers' market movement in Nova Scotia has grown significantly in recent years and has become a key pillar in the buy local and sustainable agriculture movement," said Wayne Edgar, market vice-president.
As part of the large-scale Creamery Square development, the farmers' market has been an engine of economic growth for many businesses and for the village itself. In 2010 there will be major renovations to the facility providing expanded space for vendors and more comfortable seating areas for guests.
Each year the number of vendors has increased and become more diverse. Local meats, apples, specialty food items, bread, sweets, art, unique greetings cards, vegetables, soap, jewelry, preserves, chocolates, fresh fish, knives, and other hand-made crafts are among the many products found at the market. Guests can also enjoy coffee and a variety of choices for a hot breakfast. "Most importantly the market has become a great location to meet friends, to get to know producers and share in the wonderful community that is the North Shore," said Edgar.
The market will open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon from February to December. People interested in becoming vendors at the market can call market manager, Mary Ellen Scott, at 257-1072.
