Animated features dominate this year’s offerings
The Town of Truro Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture is once again screening outdoor movies at Victoria Park this summer. Mid-Summer Movie Nights will be held on four consecutive Fridays beginning July 18.
Movies are free of charge and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) at the bandshell.
Cathy von Kintzel, special events and culture coordinator for Truro Parks, Recreation and Culture, says hundreds of people routinely attend the weekly features. Audience members are encouraged to bring their own chairs and snacks to enjoy the shows.
In the case of poor weather, movies will be shown at Douglas Street Recreation Centre, 40 Douglas St.
Here’s the 2014 movie lineup:
July 18 — The Lego Movie (2014) G
An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary MasterBuilder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together.
July 25 — The Pagemaster (1994) PG
The Pagemaster, keeper of the books and guardian of the written word, sends a timid young boy on an animated adventure through the fiction section of the library, where the greatest stories of all time come to life.
Aug. 1 — The Croods (2013) G
The Croods is a prehistoric comedy adventure that follows the world's first family as they embark on a journey of a lifetime when the cave that has always shielded them from danger is destroyed.
Aug. 8 — Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) PG
Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that’s reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants.
