Joint effort aimed at raising awareness of volunteering opportunities in Colchester

On Sept. 27, 2014 the Truro Fire Brigade and Colchester Volunteer Network are joining forces to highlight the importance of volunteering and the many opportunities that exist right here in Colchester.

For the third year, the one-day volunteer fair, Growing Volunteers, will connect local people with resources and volunteer opportunities within Colchester County, showcase services and programs and bring like-minded people together for sharing and learning.

In addition to the Fair, the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade will be hosting a “Walk in Our Boots” Firefighter Combat Challenge, consisting of teams of firefighters from fire departments throughout the province.

Exhibitor space is available at no cost by pre-registering with the United Way of Colchester by Sept. 19. The fair takes place in the Community Room at the Truro Fire Hall, Sept. 27 from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The Firefighter Challenge takes place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“If you’re looking for a way to get involved in your community and volunteer, this is an excellent way to connect and learn about opportunities,” says Raye Leier, chair of the Colchester Volunteer Network.

For exhibitor registration, contact the United Way at coordinator@unitedway.colchester.ca or 902-895-9313.
