Programs at Winding River Consolidated, Stewiacke Community Centre ready to get started

As the snow has finally started to disappear and the weather is getting warmer, more people are out and about looking for things to do. In Stewiacke we have lots of programs starting in late April/early May.

For youth who are enrolled in Winding River Consolidated (WRC), we’ll be having a “Try It” night at WRC. Each Tuesday starting April 29 at 7 p.m. we’re playing a new sport/game. Come on out and enjoy an hour of play.

We have an outdoor walking club and they’re meeting on Tuesday evenings at Winding River Consolidated at 6 p.m. Our senior walking club is meeting every Monday and Wednesday at 1 to 2 p.m. at the community centre, so dust off those shoes and let’s get walking!

On May 3 at the Stewiacke Community Centre we will be having a crafts and games day. We’re inviting youth from ages four to eight and it starts at 10 a.m. and finishes up at 11:30 a.m.

On May 7 at 6 p.m. at WRC we’re hosting a “Pickleball Try It”. If you’re looking for more information on that event, email

At the community centre we’ll be holding a “Learn to Fish” workshop through the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. This event will start at 11 a.m. and finish up around 2:30 p.m. on May 10. Pick up will be at Fox Hollow Golf Course. Ages eight to 12 are welcome. Bring your lunch, protective eyewear, appropriate clothing, etc. but no equipment is needed. To register, call 902-639-2111.

May 14 is Nova Scotia Walk Day, so the Town of Stewiacke is inviting all community members to meet at the Town Office at noon and walk for an hour in support of Walk Day. WRC students will be walking down and through the John Crawford Trail earlier that morning. The Stewiacke Preschool will also be selling some items as a fundraiser. If you’re one for cheese or popcorn, then the Preschool is where it’s at!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email or call 902-639-2111.
