Mt. Everest climber, co-op social media guru to also share stage

Chris Hadfield will be the keynote speaker at No Limits, the 65th anniversary celebration for the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council.

As commander of the International Space Station in 2013, Hadfield harnessed the power of social media to make outer space and science accessible. As author of the bestselling book, An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth, he detailed how the lessons learned in space are applicable to leaders on the ground today.

Nova Scotia residents will get an opportunity to hear the stories behind the lessons Jun. 25 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro when he delivers his keynote address in an evening that also includes Laurie Skreslet, the first Canadian to summit Mt. Everest, and California co-op social media guru Kristen Christian.

“We’re proud to be able to share the opportunity for Nova Scotians to hear from Canada's favorite astronaut,” says Dianne Kelderman, president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council. “It’s one thing to see the videos and read the tweets; it's quite another to see him in person. He is simply inspiring.”

The stories offered by Skreslet and Christian will be riveting as well, Kelderman says. Skreslet fought his way to the top of Everest in 1982. Preparation, planning and dedication to excellence were the keys to success on Mount Everest. He insists they’re also the keys to leadership and success in business.

Christian is an advocate for consumer empowerment and economic sustainability. She has led a sustained consumer initiative, Bank Transfer Day, which calls on consumers to switch from commercial banks to not-for-profit credit unions.

Tickets for the event are $35 for general admission and $100 for premium tickets, which include reserve seating, a reception and photos with the speakers. Tickets are available through TicketPro.ca and all TicketPro outlets.
