Recognizing the importance of culture community within the county and the province, the Municipality of Colchester is proud to host an art acquisition, featuring various pieces from local artists.
During the show, a work of art will be selected by a committee and added to the permanent public display on the main floor of the County of Colchester Courthouse, 1 Church St., Truro.
The selection is based on quality of the art, historic development and lifestyle of Colchester County and the medium used. Last year’s winning selection was titled ‘Three for Tea’ by Joanne M. Hunt, a professional artist living in Valley.
The art show provides artists with the opportunity to display a maximum of three works of art for the selection committee and general public. After acquainting themselves with the county's art collection, the committee then views the submissions and makes a decision.
A formal announcement of the selection is then made at a reception held by the municipality for the artists, committee, county council and media. The opening will be held on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.
As part of the purchase arrangement, the artist whose work is chosen will be asked to serve on the selection committee for the following year.
This event is co-sponsored by the Municipality of Colchester and the Truro Art Society. The show will run from Nov. 12 to 30 at the NSCC Truro campus, McCarthy Hall Gallery on 36 Arthur St.
