To the editor:
As outgoing MLA, I would like to express my gratitude to the people of this constituency for the privilege of representing you these past four years in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.
I would like also to congratulate the Liberal and Progressive Conservative candidates in the recent election, Tom Martin and Larry Harrison, on having conducted campaigns free of smallness or negativity, and to wish MLA Harrison well in the important work he is now undertaking.
A key part of representing people is the work of a constituency office, and I wish to acknowledge my deep appreciation for the diligent and committed work of Wendy Robinson, constituency assistant, on constituents’ behalf.
I have also appreciated the many helpful responses to constituents concerns that I have received from staff in offices of the Government of Nova Scotia, particularly in the Department of Community Services and the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
I am especially appreciative of the many, many people who have taken the trouble to share their points of view with me on matters of public policy and community concern, whether at my office, on the phone, or on the doorstep. Democracy cannot thrive without citizens engaged in the issues around them.
The seat for Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley in the legislature does not belong to any political party or individual, but to the people of our part of Nova Scotia, and it has been my honour to speak from that place on your behalf.
All the very best.
