Upper Stewiacke notebook, Margaret Johnson
Local actor Ryan Lee Kennedy recently received accolades at the inaugural Student Film Festival held in September in Halifax.
The festival included 81 works from around the world and was hosted by Nova Scotia’s next generation of actors, directors and filmmakers.
Nova Scotia’s entries made a mark in this truly international film festival, topping submissions from across Canada, the United States, England, France, Germany, Argentina and Iran.
Kennedy, son of Arlen and Nancy Kennedy of Upper Stewiacke, and Debbie Kennedy of Dartmouth, earned an emerging actor of the year award for his role in the short film ‘Ageless’ as a power-hungry detective. The film, shot in Halifax’s Point Pleasant Park and submitted by writer/director Dillon Garland from Barrington, was a festival favorite.
Garland was named emerging director of the year at the festival.
Kennedy also appeared in the 23rd annual Atlantic Fringe Festival held in Halifax from Aug. 29 to Sept 8. He appeared in three theatrical showings of Suicide Monologues: Stories of Hope.
