Great Village notebook, Patti Sharpe
Sept. 15 was a beautiful day for the annual Terry Fox Walk in Great Village. Walk organizers Debbie Smith and Vonnie Rushton registered 25 individual, of all ages who completed the 8-km. route beginning at the Great Village School, along Highway 2 and across the Great Village marsh.
Participants walked, ran and biked the route. A big thank you goes out to all who participated and donated – $1,362 was raised in support of cancer research. Thank you to run supporters, Masstown Market for their generous donation of apples for participants, and Keith and Debbie Smith who provided bottled water and corn following the run.
Charlene Lannon, outreach co-ordinator with the Colchester Adult Learning Association (CALA), will again be offering adult learning instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Sept. 23 at the Great Village Community Hall.
The opportunity to learn takes many forms and there are a few field trips planned to accommodate learning outside the classroom setting.
For more information, drop in and speak with Lannon at the hall or call her at 662-2214. The annual fall launch for CALA in the Great Village area will happen on Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Great Village School Gymnasium. This will take the form of a fun, family-oriented evening of pumpkin decorating, activities and snacks. This is a well-attended event and an RSVP is greatly appreciated. Call 662-2214 with the number of people planning to attend and return phone number.
Sunday services continue at St. James United Church even though the building is now for sale. Everyone is welcome.
